Blog #3: Website Evaluation

http://www.martinlutherking.org/

This is a regular site, ".org" and I suppose this is accurate because it is for an organization. The trouble is the only way the domain name relates to the topic is the subject's name. The group stormfront, a White Supremesist group has wrongly in my mind used a popular African-American icon to twist facts and try and teach youth false information about the civil rights leader. The sources are taken out of context in many situation "Rap lyrics" and only sections or bits are used in some situations to convey a false message. I think the only reason the site shows up so high on the results list is because the site is named after the famous leader. It seems like Google or someone should have some kind of filter to protect against this type of content being readily available to young students. I think this site was produced just to persuade and entice hate against the black community. I think this is a parody or satire site since the information has been so twisted.

The White Supremesist Group that published the site, "StormFront" purposefully geared the content toward students, even having handouts available. Of course this site should not be used, and teaching students to think critically and examine the publishers will help them deteremine what sites can be trusted. I used Google to search Martin Luther King and this site came up at number 8. I think the only reason the site shows up so high on the results list is because the site is named after the famous leader.
